Boston Calling is here again and between that, the holiday weekend, and the beautiful weather forecast, we could not be more excited for the local festival’s spring edition. To get everyone ready for the big weekend, BDCwire has teamed up with What to Wear Daily Report designer Josh Porter to bring you all the info you need to dress your best at Boston Calling. To start, here are some general rule of thumb items any given day:

The opening night of the festival should be pretty relaxed, with the late afternoon start and people coming right from work. I think we’re going to see a lot of classic Boston looks and a pretty basic vibe. Jeans, preferably slightly ripped or distressed, will be a cute yet safe bet. But, despite the laid back headliner Jack Johnson, you’re going to want to wear something fun for the full-on dancing you’ll be doing during Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros.

What to Wear tells us that there is a slight chance of rain and that it will be a coldest day of the festival, so don’t forget a light jacket or scarf for opening night.

Saturday, March 24

Saturday is the day to pull out your sweet early ‘00s wear and prove you’ve loved these bands since way back. Dig up some throwback band Ts. Let’s all get nostalgic and really embrace our deep, deep love of Death Cab and the Decemberists. Pull out your flannel and black cut-off jeans. Extra points for any boys out there still rocking the emo hair – this will be one weekend where you might not actually regret that decision. Ladies, try a floral or striped maxi dress paired with a denim vest and leather sandals. And if you’re feeling a bit bolder, go for a cute cropped tank or top with some shorts.

Porter tells us the weather will be nice, but not overly warm, so if you’re rocking short shorts and a tank, bring a jacket to wear into the evening.

Sunday, March 25

For those hoping to rock their festival gear in our slightly conservative city, don’t be scared, today is the day to wear fun beaded shorts, cut-off jeans, or summery jewelry. It’s going to be really beautiful out according to What to Wear, so feel empowered to rock sweet rompers, fun tanks, or tunics. I would caution against a full-on festival face paint look though, this is downtown Boston, not Lollapalooza.

Between Brand New and Kurt Vile, the lineup on Sunday is as much a rock show as it is a festival, so almost anything goes. That being said, if you’re rooting for the home team, dress for our local heroes of the weekend, TigermanWOAH!. Think overalls sans shirt, ripped jeans, and some HUGE beards and messy hair. For the ladies out there, just throw on some bright lipstick to keep your local flair feminine.
