Last night, Nirvana was honored and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the week after the 20th anniversary of Kurt Cobain’s passing. Fans had been speculating for weeks as to who might be the one filling Cobain’s role as lead singer, until we found that the vocals would be handled at the ceremony by the likes of Joan Jett, Lorde, St. Vincent, and Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth. Those performances went off without a hitch, and the ceremony even included an extra-heavy moment as Courtney Love embraced Dave Grohl during the acceptance speech (there were some mixed reactions to it). A Pixies album without Kim Deal? Whether we like it or not, it appears to be a deal. It seems that even after losing two bass-playing Kims (now recruiting Paz Lenchantin) in one year and self-releasing three short EP’s that, in comparison to rest of the band’s catalog, sounded like a band diminished, local legends Pixies will release a special edition of its forthcoming fifth studio album, “Indie Cindy” for Record Store Day 2014.
