The New England Revolution took down the Columbus Crew 3-1 at Gillette Stadium this weekend, setting up a showdown against the New York Red Bulls in two weeks in the Eastern Conference finals. Perhaps they were buoyed by their honorary captains — Boston Bruins players Kevan Miller, Reilly Smith and Matt Fraser — who showed off some deft ball-juggling skills on the sideline. More
In honor of Halloween, popular Comedy Central talk show @midnight asked Twitter users to share their scariest stories in 5 words. Meanwhile, Boston residents have been celebrating Halloween all day by tweeting their own #ScaryStoriesIn5Words, and the results are pretty great. More
The Boston Bruins got Halloween started a bit early this year and undoubtedly lifted some spirits in the process with a visit to Boston Children’s Hospital dressed as characters from the Disney smash hit “Frozen.” More
Leave it to the purveyors of low culture at Barstool Sports to bring us another great moment from the Bruins home opener on Wednesday: This perfectly timed Vine of a woman attempting to slide down a railing at TD Bank Garden and failing miserably.
In this space sits the debut of a new feature we’ve cooked up just for you. Once a week, we will dole out The Knuckles, theoretical bronze, silver and gold medals given to the previ0us week’s biggest, most blithering, well… knuckleheads. The Knuckles aren’t limited to just human beings either. Inanimate objects and abstract concepts are very much in play, as you will see below. And while we will try to skew local when handing out The Knuckles, if someone or something on the national scene proves worthy of these prestigious honors, a Knuckle will be bestowed, geography be damned. Also, if you have a potential nominee in mind, please feel free to shoot over an email. Just click on the mail icon right there on the left hand side next to that funny looking photo of me.
I grew up watching and worshipping the NBA. The league, and basketball in general, represented my gateway into sports geekdom. My first tangible sports memory is watching the Celtics dispatch the Philadelphia 76ers in the 1981 Eastern Conference Finals to the dulcet tones of Gil Santos and Bob Cousy on Channel 4 in Boston, at the ripe old age of 5. It would only get better, as the Celts were playoff regulars and championship contenders throughout the ‘80s, winning it all three times and making two other Finals appearances all while I turned from wide-eyed kindergartener to pimple-faced, middle school outcast. It was heaven. More
It feels like yesterday that the Bruins fell in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals against the Chicago Blackhawks, missing out on their second championship in three years.
Yet it also feels like an entire ice age has come and gone since that night last June when a 2-1 lead turned into a 3-2 loss in the span of 17 seconds within the final 1:16 of the game. This year’s playoffs couldn’t have come soon enough and tonight, they’re finally here. More
Don’t feel bad if you’ve lost track of the Bruins somewhat over the past couple of weeks. With NFL free agency and all the Pats information to digest, along with the NCAA tournament and the looming Red Sox championship defense, falling a bit behind on hockey, now well into its sixth month but still weeks away from the playoffs, is completely excusable. Yes, Tuukka Rask of your Boston Bruins has been STANDIN’ ON HIS HEAD as of late, KEHD! He tied his career high with 43 saves in NY last night. But Adam 12 is worried: should Rask be between the pipes for so many of these games so early on? Kevin Paul Dupont puts 12’s fears to rest, then talks defensive injuries and potential line shake-ups. Listen.
