Brookline’s own Eli “Paperboy” Reed has been hitting the high notes for the better part of a decade now, coming up through local clubs like The Middle East to now being one of the leading voices in R&B. Reed, now based in New York, is set to release his third full-length, “Nights Like This,” next Tuesday, but thanks to Rolling Stone, you can stream the entire album a week in advance. Known prominently for his soulful wail, Reed has always had a knack for recreating the solid gold sounds of yesteryear, but “Nights Like This” presents a departure from that formula.
The album toys with more pop-friendly avenues, which, on paper, could rub a soul snob the wrong way, but in practice, allows the vocalist to try his hand at varying styles. Check out the first single from the album, “Woo Hoo,” below, and if you like what you hear check out the album in full over at Rolling Stone.
