WOOOOOOOOAH. Starting a record with 4:40 of astral noise is a good way to totally detach your audience from their bodies. Modern Lighting’s “Apsis” – which is “a point of greatest or least distance of a body in an elliptic orbit about a larger body,” dontcha know – is certainly celestial, but it doesn’t feel enlightened. Instead, it sounds like the rubber minds of Modern Lighting shot Terrence Malick with a shrink ray and made him run in a hamster wheel that powers wavetables. Depending on who you ask, that might be a good thing, but since you asked me, I’d say it’s not.
