In the vein of Calvin Harris and Katy Perry, Jess Walker aims to straddle the line between pop and club music with her laser keys and robotized vocals. There are also smacks of Ke$ha (“Suffocating”), Cascada (“We’re Still Young”), and even Carrie Underwood (“Right Words”). Hell, “First and Last” could be a Demi Lovato song, for all I know. All this makes Walker an undesirable Voltron of the popular half-talents in her vein. It’s unfortunate but absolutely inescapable.
