Sounds like someone is gearing up for holiday party season a little early.
According to the Irish Mirror, five armed robbers rolled two 40-foot trucks up to an industrial park in Dublin and made off with 15,480 bottles of Jameson Whiskey, as well as an undisclosed number of bottles of Jack Daniels’ Whiskey and Bombay Sapphire Gin. Officials valued the stolen goods at around $1.2 million, and are still looking for leads in the case — though the fact that no rum was stolen rules out my Uncle Rick.
A spokesman for Irish law enforcement said officials believed the robbery was timed so the thieves could sell the spirits in time for the holiday season.
So how will you know if you’re drinking Jameson stolen straight from the warehouses of Dublin? By looking at the bottom of your bottle.
“Each of the cases stolen has one of these three Batch numbers; L428112153, L428312172, L428016141, with each bottle having a corresponding batch number on the rear of the label.”
“Anyone with information is asked to contact the Incident Room at Ballyfermot Garda Station on 01 6667227 / 01 6667200 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800666111.”
So there you have it: If you happen to memorize the ten-digit batch numbers and can somehow recall them after getting to the bottom of a Jameson bottle, feel free to make a $20 long-distance phone call to the Incident Room — which sounds like more like the name of a CBS procedural than a real police station.
