Jon Lester left many Red Sox fans feeling betrayed after spurning Boston for a better offer from the Chicago Cubs. But Lester made sure to express his gratitude to the Red Sox organization and its fans — even the incredibly rude ones.
Lester made sure to thank the fans in every possible way. Whether it was a general statement to Red Sox Nation…
To Red Sox Nation, I understand the disappointment. Boston will always have a big place in my heart and we'll always consider y'all family!

…or well wishes to a Sox fan studying for finals.
@mrspedroia sorry Lilly, please hang in there and crush your finals!

Some fans weren’t as nice to Jon, but he responded in stride.
@wwadas sorry you feel that way man

The closest Lester got to showing a little attitude was with this fan.
But who can blame him, considering the fan’s condescending tweet about “classiness” while saying he hoped Lester would suffer a career-ending injury?
Red Sox fan @N_Ruggiero may have locked his account, but his tweets to @JLester31 will live on forever. #classy pic.twitter.com/l5YMmPVRqM

Fans may not be happy with the prospect of a Lester-less rotation — though the acquisitions of Rick Porcello and Wade Miley should help somewhat — no one can deny that Jon Lester is a class act.
