Johnny Depp may be an actor by profession, but that doesn’t stop him from seizing every opportunity to rock. Whether he’s modeling his characters of off members of The Rolling Stones or shredding licks with that bearded guy from ZZ Top, Depp has always rebelled against acting in favor of his passion for music, even though he’s criticized other actors for doing so in the past.
It seems that Depp is now more active than ever in pursuing his musical interests, and his latest collaborator is none other than Aerosmith’s own Joe Perry. The Bad Boy from Boston is teaming up with Depp and fellow ’70s rocker Alice Cooper to form a supergroup called The Hollywood Vampires. Cooper confirmed the project on his Instagram late last week.
According to Rolling Stone, the name of the band carries a bit of history, mostly credited to Alice Cooper’s west coast rocking.
“The Hollywood Vampires, which takes its name from the infamous booze crew that Cooper formed with John Lennon, Harry Nilsson, Keith Moon and Ringo Starr at Los Angeles’ Rainbow Bar and Grill in the Seventies, will perform this September at the Brazilian fest. So far, that’s the lone date on the new supergroup’s schedule.”
While it’s not confirmed how Aerosmith’s lead guitarist got in on this deal, other than the fact that he’s one of the greatest players of all time, Cooper and Depp have a bit of history, meeting for the first time on the set of Dark Shadows in 2012, and just being two supremely weird dudes. The Hollywood Vampires have one show lined up so far in the fall so far, but no word yet on a Boston date.
