Hungarian director Zsemberi Zsofia filmed a short that hopes to illustrate a clear social message.
Titled Gift, it starts with a very loving and excited embrace.
The scene is joyful, and the young girl is welcomed with open arms.
Everyone is one big, happy family.
But when the initial excitement dies down, no one wants to play with her.
In fact, it seems like no one cares, and that she’s become a burden.
The family makes a decision. We see the father lead her to a car, and drive down an ominous road.
He throws her doll into a field.
The girl gives chase, and runs back to the car.
And that’s where things take a surprising, heartbreaking turn.

The message is clear, and certainly resonates. But is it delivered fairly?
