Sure, some celebrities will win some Oscars for acting or directing or whatever, but we’re here to talk about what really matters: the outfits at this year’s Academy Awards. Because the cut of a good dress deserves as many accolades as the cut of a good film.
Here’s a gallery of who (or whose stylist) got it right this year when it came to clothing themselves for the red carpet.

Lupita, in a dress embroidered with 6,000 pearls, can do no wrong.
Cate Blanchett keeps it simple in a black dress that’s the perfect shape. There’s some fraying around the shoulders, which makes it interesting and edgy. And then she adds a chunky turquoise necklace to up the ante. She takes home the whole pot.
Champagne and sparkles were a theme on this year's red carpet, and Katie Cassidy nails both with this stunner.
Jamie Chung is rocking an A+ party dress. The sunburst of sparkles radiating up her torso accentuate her figure and the mirroring sunbursts on the skirt keep the party going.
David Oyelowo’s red suit is a welcome change from the sea of black tuxes, but it’s not so far out that it distracts. Elegant, simple, and spot-on.
The first thing you notice about Marion Cotillard’s look is that her earrings mirror the circles on the dress. And then she turns around and you see that beautiful drape in the back. And then it’s game over.
Dakota Johnson looks bomb in Saint Laurent. The one shoulder look works so well because of the sparkle. It offsets the solid red.
Joanna Newsom picked such a clean, sweet dress. The structure is simple, the top interesting, and the white bright.
Margot Robbie’s necklace is so beautiful It’s insane. Originally designed for Duchess of Windsor by Van Cleef & Arpels in the 1930s, the necklace is perfect with that Saint Laurent dress. The drape of those sleeves is gorgeous.
Anna Kendrick looks elegant in custom Thakoon. That neckline? To die for.
Lupita, in a dress embroidered with 6,000 pearls, can do no wrong.
