As part of Converse’s CONS Project – a series of creative workshops held in Los Angeles, New York, Boston and Toronto and led by experts in each city’s skate, art, and music communities – local youths took to drills and saws yesterday as they learned how to build furniture from recycled skate decks. The “Creative Recycling” project was the third of five in the ongoing workshop series slated to hit the city over the next year and encouraged aspiring designers and artistic builders to learn the key skills of repurposing used skateboards, designing, and painting finished pieces.
The daylong workshop was led by renowned designer and craftsman, Andy Vasquez with the help of Converse CONS Skate Ambassadors, Eli Reed and Aaron Herrington. The creative seminars offered tangible, hands-on lessons for local youth and undoubtedly inspired the next generation of creative spirits present yesterday through tons of skating and heaps of creative energy. We got a chance to build our own skate deck stool yesterday; check out the photographs from the event.
