Remember that huge, wildly colored mural that read “THERE’S NEVER AN OFF SEASON” and spanned the corner of Brookline Avenue and Boylston Street in the Fenway neighborhood? Well, the talented folks at Best Dressed Signs were behind that magnificently large job, but have since seen its departure from the sprawling sign’s prime real estate.

While things in the Fenway now seem quite dismal sans the pop of color on that highly-trafficked corner, the Best Dressed Signs team – Josh Luke, Meredith Kasabian, Kenji Nakayama, Corinna D’Schoto, Martina Benassi, and Sophie Greenspan – has recreated the vibrant sign inside the small confines of the Boston University Art Gallery Annex for a month long exhibition entitled, “Tight Spaces”.

According to the exhibit’s artist statement, “In re-creating this large, public, and highly visible sign inside a small gallery space we aim to confront the viewer by presenting the scope of the lettering in an intimate setting. The theme of confrontation is expanded upon by the bright colors, reversed lettering, and the accompanying video, in which we engage the viewer with an abstracted audio/visual incursion of live punk music.”

“Tight Spaces” is now showing at Boston University Art Gallery Annex until September 21.
