Zev Hoover may only be 14 but the Natick native’s photos reflect the technique of an artist much older, while capturing the imagination of someone half his age. Known in the photography world as “Fiddle Oak,” a world he is currently setting on fire as a star up-and-comer, Hoover often works with his 17-year-old sister Nellie to capture wondrous images that provide homes to the tiny characters he places in these photographic dreamscapes (he often puts himself in the pictures). The photographer has been pursuing his craft since he was 8 and has only gathered more curiosity over time, giving his characters new settings, objects, and worlds to explore. Take a look at some of Hoover’s images and below select photos, read about his inspiration for the accompanying picture.
