Local Music

The Boston Band of the week is brought to you by our content partner Allston Pudding, which is a Boston based music blog that highlights new and live music from the local music scene and beyond. Each week, Allston Pudding will highlight awesome local acts that they feel should be on your radar. Who: Miami Doritos

A little bit of background: The duo, Kurt Egghart and Alex Aronson (Nice Guys), claims to have met in a strip club. “[Being a duo is] a lot easier than having to come up with an extra part or having an extra person to have to coordinate with,” says Egghart. With the ruckus that this noisy garage act creates – they certainly don’t “need” additional bodies in their lineup.

Their first two releases both dropped last year and the duo launched a partnership and collaboration with the rest of Nice Guys to put out a 7”-split “Splifft” this past Feburary (if they can share Aronson, they can share an EP). I’m partial to “Scoop Dreams” for its wailing (see: “Ice Age Dream”), upbeat punchiness, but mostly the relentless thumping that’s present throughout. It’s an EP that shows more solid range, especially when things slow down and take on a proto-punk vibe on “Hideaway.”

Sounds kinda like: punk/garage/noise rock

Why you should care: This is a gnarly two-piece whose sound is astoundingly large (sonically).  Their shows are going to be gritty and raw, full of the energy you need on a summer night. Sweaty and tired of wanting to peel your skin off in your air-conditioning-less apartment? Get rustled up in Miami Doritos’ short hooks and piercing distorted guitar and let loose. Miami Doritos is crunchy, noise-rock at it’s finest. Honestly if you’ve never been to a show like this before, this duo ain’t a shabby way to ease into it.

Fun fact: They are not from Miami (but presumably enjoy Doritos).

Press play: Check out this clip of the duo from last year’s DIY Fest, courtesy of Ethan Long:
