Local Music

The Boston Band of the week is brought to you by our content partner Allston Pudding, which is a Boston based music blog that highlights new and live music from the local music scene and beyond. Each week, Allston Pudding will highlight awesome local acts that they feel should be on your radar. Who: CREATUROS

A little bit of background: The group released their debut “Swampp Thingg” on cassette in 2012, just a year after their power-trio ethos first came together. Recorded by Chris McLaughlin at 1867 Studios in Charleston, the album put CREATUROS on Boston’s radar, but they have really come alive on the stage.

Originally having started out as a three piece with frontman Spenser Gralla (DOOMSTAR!), bassist Joe Marrett (Hallelujah the Hills), and then-drummer Noah Bond (also of DOOMSTAR!) – the fellas reeled in their pal Dominic Mariano (formerly of Viva Viva and Skimask) to take over the kit. This year we’ve been getting tastes of new material with standalone singles “Short Shorts” and “Going Out In Style.”

Sounds kinda like: garage/psych rock

Why you should care: As one of my colleagues put it, “CREATUROS are one part garage rock, one part psych, and many more parts ‘I don’t know what this is called but it sounds pretty sick to me.’” Fans of bands like Quilt, Thee Oh Sees, Ty Segall, and even Tame Impala should rejoice that you can get your fix right here with these locals.  Anyone who has seen CREATUROS live before will tell you they fucking shred (see: video below).

Fun fact: CREATUROS was featured in a full-length film, “Homemakers,” which debuted at this year’s IFF Boston.
