This time of year, Boston bands are feeling very merry. Here’s a list of some local holiday rock and roll shows this month, if you care to do some rockin’ around the Christmas tree.

Best bets

Dec. 10 – Great Scott Holiday Party at Great Scott

Join local holiday supergroup The Scrooges as they belt out songs by The Stooges donned in Santa garb. You might even enjoy a seasonal pickleback or two. This party is free, but it’s strongly encouraged that you bring an unopened, unwrapped toy donation to help benefit Great Scott’s annual Department of Family Services Toy Drive (9:30 p.m., free, 18+).

Dec. 14 – Indie Rock Ranger’s Holiday Spectacular at Middle East Downstairs

Local booker Richard Bouchard invites some of his favorite locals to a festive night, including the synthy boogies of Freezepop and Animal Talk, the hard-nosed pop rock of Sidewalk Driver and Harris Hawk, and the jangly twang of Parks. This show also includes Anngelle Wood’s holiday toy drive for the Department of Children and Families. If able, bring a new, unwrapped toy for a child or teen in need (8 p.m., $12, 18+).

Dec. 14 – White Trash Christmas Party at Radio

Head to Radio and ring in the holiday season in the trashiest way possible. Order some PBRs, dig sets by Civil Warblers, Thunderbloods, and Slim Jim & the Mad Cows and participate in the deviled egg cook-off (8 p.m., $10, 21+).

Dec. 22 – Harry and the Potters’ 9th Annual Yule Ball at Middle East Downstairs

Harry and the Potters return to host its annual winter celebration of all things Potter. In addition to a performance from Hogwarts’ most rockin’ band, check out the Potter Puppet Pals, Jason Anderson, Lauren Fairweather, and the Whomping Willows. With each ticket sold, $5 will benefit the charity the Harry Potter Alliance (5 p.m., $20, all ages).

Dec. 22 – Winter Solstice Party at Radio

Celebrate a holiday that we’re all forced to participate in whether we like it or not (on the bright side, it does mean that days get longer from here on out). Welcome the year’s shortest day with the electronic love of Andre Obin, Bathaus, Ruby Ridge, Lend Bias, and a C0ralcola DJ set (8 p.m., $9, 21+).
