The MBTA apparently doesn’t have time to prevent trains from breaking down or to repair constantly disabled trains but it does have time to host the world’s largest key lime pie.

Florida-based chef David Sloan along with a fellow chef will be preparing an enormous pie at Boston’s South Station at 3:15 p.m and will be serving by 4:00 p.m. as part of a promotional effort by the Florida Keys & Key West (motto: you’ve gotta be tired of the snow by now, right?).

The master pie will be created in the main concourse of the station, providing approximately 2,000 servings. According to a press statement, it will involve using 5,760 yellow key limes, 200 pounds of graham crackers for the crust and 55 gallons of sweetened condensed milk. Estimated to weigh 1,000 pounds, the pie is expected to measure 9 feet in diameter.

So if 2,000 people all want to hop on the MBTA and head toward the biggest, busiest station for some free pie served in the sunny, extremely sanitary South Station, you should be able to get some pie by next Tuesday.

At the end of the day though, who can resist free food?
