Usually when a tough divorce talk happens, parents sit their children down and do the explaining. In a video that recently went viral, the tables are turned.
Six-year-old Tiana calmly, precociously laid out all the reasons why her mother and father ought to remain friends after their split.
The level-headed lecture came after Tiana witnessed her parents fighting, according to BuzzFeed Life. Instead of getting upset, as any other typical kid may have done, Tiana tried to reason with her mother.
“Mum, are you ready to be his friend?” Tiana asked.
Her mother told her that she was, but the little girl wasn’t finished quite yet.
“I’m not trying to be mean,” Tiana said in the video. “I just want everyone to be friends. And if I can be nice, I think all of us can be nice, too.”
The talk, which lasted around three minutes, is equal parts adorable and heartbreaking. It’s cute that this child is able to carry herself like an adult, but it’s also devastating to realize how much of an adult situation she’s in.
The speech gets especially deep at times, with Tiana telling her mom that “if we live in a world where everyone is being mean, everyone’s gonna be a monster in their future,” and that “we need everyone to be a person. Everyone.”
The video was first uploaded to Facebook by Tiana’s mother, Cherish Sherry, BuzzFeed Life reports.
The original video is no longer available, but it had amassed at least 10 million views before being deleted. An upload on YouTube, posted on September 16, has more than one million views.
