Hillary Clinton hasn’t formally announced whether she is planning to run for President in 2016, but if this music video is the best her backers can come up with, she should just give up now.
The music video was produced by a group called Stand With Hillary, one of several super PACs that aren’t affiliated with Clinton, but have begun raising money and galvanizing support for the former Secretary of State, U.S. Senator, and First Lady.
According to the Washington Post article on the group of Clinton super PACs, Stand With Hillary says it plans to “use social media to promote her image among working families and Latinos.” I’m neither of those things, so maybe I only think “Stand With Hillary” music video is terrible because I’m not its intended audience. But OH MY GOD this song is terrible.
The first 40 seconds of the video could easily be a Ford commercial if it weren’t for quick shots of Clinton’s face and the auto-tuned cowboy smashing a “glass ceiling” with “2016” spray-painted on it. Hey, working-class families, this guy loves his tractor and loves his wife, but he also loves Hillary Clinton. In fact, he gets a little teary-eyed whenever he thinks about how caring and hard-working she is.
If Stand With Hillary’s goal is to get social media buzz, they’ve done it. Positive social media buzz? Not so much.
