Last week, Kim Kardashian may have #broketheinternet, but in a trip to Thailand last summer while filming her show, “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” it seems that a Thai child broke Kardashian’s heart after passing up an offer to be adopted by Kim and Kanye.
Daily Mail reports that a 13-year-old Thai girl named Laddawan Tong-Keaw, who goes by the name Pink, became a figure of interest for Kim upon the family’s visit to Thailand that was documented in an August 2014 episode of the show. In the episode, the two form a bond at an orphanage, between putting their colorful handprints on the orphanage walls and Pink gifting Kim a bracelet as a parting gift. It was enough of a powerful relationship for Kim to express serious (or as serious as one might take Kim Kardashian) interest in adopting Pink.
“I literally cannot stop thinking about her,” Kim said at the time of the episode’s fiming, “I told Kanye, I was like, honestly, this girl is so sweet and so cute, like, I would honestly adopt her.”
In the episode, Kim’s desire to adopt was crushed when her mother, Kris Jenner, told her that adopting a child directly from an orphanage isn’t quite the same as going window shopping– a point that was solidified by the manager of the resort that the Kardashians were staying at, who added that you can’t adopt in Thailand. “It’s very, very difficult,” he said. “The government worry that people are going to come here and take the children for the wrong reasons.”
According to the Daily Mail report, that wasn’t where the story ended. Kardashian revisited the orphanage several times throughout the trip, and at one point, the idea of adoption was brought up to Pink. Pink, who isn’t even an orphan, but was living in the home because her mother who visited frequently was too poor to provide proper care for her daughter, wasn’t super interested in Kardashian’s offer. Instead, the teenager expressed interest in staying in her native country, continuing to study, and someday hopefully be able to help her impoverished homeland.
“Everyone wants to have a different or a better life, I suppose,” said Pink. “But when I thought about it I realised it wouldn’t be good for me, because I would have to leave so much behind. I wasn’t ready for that.”
Unfortunately for Kim, this means no Pink Kardashian, and the chance for there to be a new most intelligent member of the Kardashian family will have to be put on hold for now. At least there’s always the millions of dollars that she makes for existing every year!
