After months of holding our collective breath, the Boston Calling lineup for this May (hand-picked by Aaron Dessner of The National) has been announced at long last with some major headliners and a few surprises. Beck, Pixies, My Morning Jacket and Ben Harper will anchor the three-day festival that boasts 23 total performers on the bill that ranges from big names to local favorites. More
Lots of big tickets rolling through town this week, which makes you wonder if Boston is becoming one of those cities where bands don’t want to waste a weekend night on us, so they tour through here on Mondays and Tuesdays instead. No hope in stressing it I guess. If anything, it’s just more of an excuse to party in the middle of the week. More
Any exploration into the nature of band names isn’t going to end well. Most sound pretty bad at first. Band names are like baby names; they only sound “right” once you actually get to know the child. The bar was also set quite low at the onset of rock history. The Beatles and the Beach Boys are two of the greatest bands ever — yet both have terrible names. Little would the world know that a mere 50 years later, bands with names like Diarrhea Planet would be soon be lining up for our time’s equivalent of the “Ed Sullivan Show.” More
