The Boss has returned with a new album, “High Hopes,” and this one is filled with covers, outtakes, and re-recordings from previous albums. It’s Springsteen’s 18th studio LP, and while it may not contain much in the way of recent songwriting, Jersey’s favorite son finds ways to modernize it and keep things interesting. One of these ways was to recruit Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello, whom Springsteen referred to as his “muse” for the project. Along with the E Street Band, including work from the late Danny Federici and Clarence Clemons, the backing of Morello adds an alternative twist to these recordings, which contains re-workings of songs by Saints, Suicide, and Tim Scott McConnell.
