The tradition continues: 35th annual Rock ‘n’ Roll Rumble set to go

Tradition more often than not tends to bite Boston in the ass, but some traditions end up putting a spotlight on some of the best stuff that happens here on a daily basis. For 35 years, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Rumble has taken bands that have strong ties to the Boston music scene and helps them gain greater exposure. It’s basically a rite of passage: Previous Rumble competitors include legendary names like The Dresden Dolls, Mission of Burma, the Lemonheads, Big D and the Kids Table, and Eli “Paperboy” Reed. Halloween brings one of Boston’s coolest local music traditions, with bands taking the stage (sometimes in costume) as a more famous/often hilarious musical act. You may be particularly intrigued this year in the week leading up to ‘ween, particularly if you have an appetite for pizza, Green Day, or EDM. If cover sets aren’t your thing, there are plenty of Halloween-themed shows, including RadioBDC’s Retro Halloween Ball at Ned Devine’s on Oct. 31. But wherever you go, make sure you dress the part.
