If someone told me this EP was recorded live at the Cantab or the Midway or somesuch divey but nonetheless beloved third-tier rock club, I would believe that person. It’s a bit sloppy! Like a greasy egg, cheese and tomato sandwich that collapses into scrambled eggs just before the final few bites! So regardless of its slippery texture, “Strange Resolutions” makes a thoroughly satisfying noise-pop breakfast treat. Cacophonic yet oddly soothing keyboard melodies that float over closing track “Back Against the Ocean” can be likened to a jalapeño mayonnaise spread that, at first, you weren’t sure if you should spend the extra 75 cents on, but wound up blissfully happy that you did.
