First things first: on the song’s SoundCloud page it is described as coming from the POV of Joan of Arc on the stake. So, now we know it’s a light, fun summer hit! But in all seriousness, the song (which is tagged as “classical”) is a, to put it nicely, mixed bag. The music twinkles and sways, featuring strings, what appears to be a chorus, and then some. It’s pretty stuff but nothing new really. And then the vocals come in… Poetry half-read/half-sung in an indiscernible and grating manner completely distracts from the music itself. The page describes that it is a work in progress (fully understandable), but one would hope so. Otherwise, what could explain the semi-hi-fi quality of the music and the irritatingly lo-fi quality of the vocals?
