There are moments that Gorilla Gorilla just pummels the lazy jazz he raps over. The closing verse of “Sunny” got me a little hype, whereas the rest of the song soothed that hype flat. I’m not totally sure what the double-named primate is going for with his eponymous EP – balancing between Grizzly Bear covers and five-minute acid jams is a precarious balance – but I don’t care what it all means. “Gorilla Gorilla” can soundtrack my workday any afternoon. I don’t know how seriously I can entertain the proto-Flobots flow, but the piano-steady soul can stay.
