The beloved breakthrough album just turned 30.
First of all, thanks to Graham, the listener who suggested that I tackle The Joshua Tree for this month’s edition of Resequenced. Second of all, to hell with Graham, the listener who suggested that I tackle The Joshua Tree for this month’s edition of Resequenced. This wasn’t easy.
With my previous Resequenced albums–Nevermind, Ten, and The Bends–I didn’t have that sense of doom I had this time around. Is it that The Joshua Tree has an additional layer of sacredness to it that those three albums lack? Perhaps. My gut tells me that my feelings of foreboding come more from U2’s fan base than anything else, though. Mess around with Ten and Pearl Jam fans say “cool!” Mess around with The Joshua Tree and U2 fans start registering their discontent all over the internet.
Maybe I’m overthinking the whole thing. I didn’t overthink the resequencing, though. The order sorted itself out pretty quickly. Take a look and a listen and let me know what you think.
