Stephen Colbert is reeling in the big guests before his move to CBS to replace David Letterman, but last night was easily the biggest “Colbert Report” guest yet: Barack Obama.
President Obama joined Colbert on stage at George Washington University for a taping of “The Colbert Report,” receiving even more cheers than the already clap-happy audience typically gives Colbert.
“Stephen, you’ve been taking a lot of shots at my job—I’ve decided to take a shot at yours,” Obama said, before taking Colbert’s seat for a slightly more presidential version of Colbert’s “The Word” segment titled “The Decree.”
Though Obama didn’t nail every one-liner like Colbert does, he was still pretty on-point, and refreshingly self-deprecating. His jokes about the healthcare website were especially on point: “Remember the original healthcare.gov website? I think that’s where Disney got the idea for ‘Frozen.'”
Along with the segment, the President also sat down for an interview with Colbert, riffing with him as Colbert savaged his performance with his usual faux-conservative schtick.
