As American music festival culture grows a bit out of control, there’s one tried and true summer staple that had your parents’ parents complaining about the racket over 40 years ago. The Newport Folk Festival is Rhode Island’s greatest annual contribution to the music landscape, and has only amplified in the past decade.
Today, the final headliner was announced, rounding out the sold-out festival, which will take place July 25-27 at Fort Adams State Park in Newport, RI. Jack White, former lead man of The White Stripes and founder of Third Man Records will headline Saturday evening, joining an already stacked lineup that includes Ryan Adams, Nickel Creek, and Jeff Tweedy among others. White’s new album, “Lazaretto,” releases tomorrow.
There may not be any tickets still available, but there’s always Craigslist, or start ringing up those friends with boats and watch for free from the water.
