Apparently six million dollars ain’t what it used to be.
Mark Wahlberg is set to star in Dimension Films’ The Six Billion Dollar Man, an inflation-adjusted update on the classic ’70s TV show The Six Million Dollar Man, set to hit theaters December 22, 2017.
Based on the Martin Caidin novel Cyborg, The Six Million Dollar Man told the story of astronaut Steve Austin, who is brought back to life after a near-fatal crash and equipped with six million dollars worth of crime-fighting technology.
“I’m thrilled to assemble ‘The Six Billion Dollar Man’ for the big screen with the likes of Bob Weinstein and Damián Szifron,” Wahlberg told Variety. “We look forward to creating a Steve Austin for the 21st century.”
Considering $6 million in 1973 is equivalent to a little over $32 million today, the extra billions being spent to upgrade Wahlberg should make him a better, stronger, and faster Steve Austin than Lee Majors. Then again, didn’t we already know that Marky Mark is a man’s man?
