Remember the show “Daria”? Of course you do, it ruled. How about the Muppets’ groovy house band, Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem? These walks down memory lane have been brought back to life thanks to a compilation from San Francisco based Father/Daughter Records. The compilation features bands from the label covering songs from fictional bands, whether it be from movies or TV.
The compilation, which was made as a Record Store Day exclusive and will be available in certain stores on April 19, also features three local bands. Western MA punk quartet Potty Mouth does a rendition of “Take Me Away,” the tune performed by Pink Slip in the movie “Freaky Friday,” Sadie Dupuis of Speedy Ortiz puts her lo-fi spin on the “Josie & the Pussy Cats” theme, and local trio Bent Shapes play “Ow! My Face” by Mystik Spiral, the band from MTV’s classic cartoon “Daria.” You can stream all three of these tunes below, courtesy of Father/Daughter Records, and look for the physical release in participating stores April 19.
