Southern rapper 2 Chainz made a name for himself as a featured artist on tracks before becoming a successful solo artist. He’s been tapped by Robin Thicke, had no problem assisting A$AP, and even courageously ventured into Bieber territory. Trap’s golden boy is coming to House of Blues Tuesday, so we decided to count down some of his most memorable cameos that gave otherwise questionable songs way more likeability.
1. | B.O.B. featuring 2 Chainz: “Headband” |
Remember that annoying “Airplanes” atrocity? Unfortunately, so do we. In fact, B.O.B.’s dismal musical abilities got him a shout out from Odd Future’s Tyler The Creator on “Yonkers,” and it wasn’t the good kind. So it’s refreshing that B.O.B. is switching up his style, and even better that he called in 2 Chainz for reinforcement. “Headband” has well placed chimes and a propulsive hook, making it a huge step in the right direction.
2. | Nicki Minaj featuring 2 Chainz: “Beez In The Trap” |
With such an intense club ready rhythm and a 2 Chainz guest verse, it was hard for “Beez in the Trap” to suck as much as it did. But Minaj somehow managed to lyrically drop the ball on this. From its brain numbing chorus to exhausting and often meaningless boasts, this song was a complete disappointment. 2 Chainz did his best to save such mind blowing mediocrity — can’t fault him for that.
3. | Lil’ Wayne featuring 2 Chainz: “Rich As Fuck” |
Like Minaj, Lil’ Wayne lyrics often bounce between stark revelations and indecipherable rumbles. “Rich as Fuck” is no different, with Wayne’s bars serving as ode to his prison days, good weed, and female genitalia. The listener helplessly shuffles between fantasy and reality, but the muscular vocal quaver 2 Chainz possesses quickly brings us back down to earth — and not a moment too soon.
