The tradition continues with the legendary Oedipus playing his one-of-a-kind mix of holiday music, starting at 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve. We asked the long-time Boston DJ and host of The Oedipus Project how this holiday tradition began.
“Nobody wants to be on the air on Christmas Eve. As a new, part time DJ at WBCN, of course I volunteered. I soon realized that I was the soundtrack for Christmas. The problem was that most Christmas songs were overplayed, so my research and my collection began. And the tradition was born. Peace, love and understanding (from the artist that I first championed in Boston) and Christmas songs–both melodic and inspirational–guaranteed not to be the type that, if heard one more time, would make you want to smash the radio or shoot the DJ.”
Now, decades later, the Boston tradition is alive on RadioBDC. Listen here, starting at 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Or, if you’re traveling, download the RadioBDC app for iPhone (or for Android) and take us with you.
Merry Christmas.
