After the trailer for “Dumb and Dumber To,” the 18-years-too-late sequel to the 1994 Farrelly brothers comedy romp starring Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey, premiered on Fallon last night, Hub hockey fans had one question on their minds – will Cam Neely be returning as Sea Bass? According to this report from NESN, the answer to that questions is yes.

Though the Herald’s Jen Royle notes that the scene could still end up on the cutting room floor, it was confirmed that Neely, the cartilage-deficient president of the Boston Bruins, did film a spot for the movie.

During the season, the Hall of Fame forward was tight-lipped about returning to the franchise, though rumors indicated that he, along with Bruins winger Milan Lucic, would both make appearances. Now that the season is over, could it be coming to light that the tough-knuckled Lucic – who is often drawn as a younger Neely for his mix of brawn and finesse – will be seeing screen time as the son of Sea Bass?

As the NESN article reports, Neely is listed on the film’s IMDb page, though Lucic is not. However, we can’t rule out the possibility that the Farrellys, who were raised in Rhode Island, won’t drop in another surprise homage to their hometown boys. Either way, this will be a huge reward for fans of the franchise as well as hockey fans in Boston. It doesn’t quite make up for “Dumb and Dumberer,” but at least we’re on our way to making things right.

“Dumb and Dumber To” is in theaters November 14.
