“I need feminism because I intend on marrying rich and I can’t do that if my wife and I are making .75 cent for every dollar a man makes.”

That was the quote 17-year-old Caitlyn Cannon — a recent graduate of Oak Hills High School in Oak Hills, California — selected for her yearbook.

Cannon, who is headed to New York City and describes herself as “feminist” and “really gay”, appropriated her statement from a quote she found on Tumblr. She told Cosmopolitan that she wanted to have a different yearbook post than most.

“While it would have been fun to submit something funny or silly,” Cannon said, “I think it was even more rewarding to submit the truth, and call some attention to it.”
