Who: Sneeze

A little bit of background: This group has been kicking it around the Boston scene since 2010 with their brand of grunge and ’90s punk infused pop. The trio’s sound is energetic, dark, and complex – all the while still managing to feel smooth. Most Sneeze tracks are on the short side, their music moves quickly, and their records easily lend themselves to that, “What? It’s over? I guess I have to press play again.”-moment.

Fronted by the raw vocals of Derek Desharnais, Sneeze released their first full length “I’m Going To Kill Myself” in 2012 and this month they are gearing up to drop the follow up, “Wilt.” The new record is out on June 17 under Glory Kid and was produced by Justin Pizzoferrato (Dinosaur Jr., Sonic Youth, Speedy Ortiz). You can get a taste of “Wilt” right now by streaming it on Brooklyn Vegan.

Sounds kinda like: Modest Mouse, Weezer, and Jeff the Brotherhood met and liked it.

Why you should care: If you like distortion pedals and need some messy, loud, grunge to get through the week: this is for you. Sneeze is a captivating and punchy group that gives a solid nod to the past, and who are clearly in love what they are doing. On the cusp of releasing this new LP, this is an exciting time for Sneeze and a perfect time for you to be a part of it.

Fun fact: Read their answers to the “strangest place you’ve ever played a gig” below.

Like what you hear? You can (and should) go to the “Wilt” release show this Saturday. What beautiful timing, eh?
