By now, we all know that October 21, 2015, is the day that Marty McFly arrives in the future in the 1989 hit Back to the Future II. But an unexpected plot twist just got added to the age-old tale:
Marty McFly may have lived in California, but somehow the DeLorean time machine wound up in Cambridge, Massachusetts on MIT’s campus, where it crashed into a tree.
Well, sort of.
A photoset posted to Twitter by user @TransitMark shows a a replica of the infamous car in ruins. When you’re going fast enough to beat time, it’s bound to be a nasty crash.

No word yet on who’s responsible for making the replica of Dr. Brown’s time machine, but we’re guessing it was someone who works in quantum mechanics.
